Just a few weeks ago, BTS star V announced he has a new single on the way, one which will get both him and his fans into the holiday spirit. Before that tune can arrive, however, the musician will share another tune, which is also meant to capitalize on the season.
V will drop a single titled “Winter Ahead” just before December rolls around. The song is expected to be released on Friday, November 29.
“Winter Ahead” will not be a solo affair. V will join fellow South Korean artist Park Hyo Shin on the tune, who is famous in the Asian nation for his ballads and his beautiful voice.
According to a press statement shared by Hybe and Big Hit Music, V’s record labels, “Winter Ahead” is described as “jazz pop,” which makes it perfect for December’s cozy mood. The announcement added that V has a “tradition” of releasing solo songs around the end of the year that “evoke the feeling of winter,” and this latest track is another perfect example of his ongoing trend.
“Winter Ahead” was written by Jesse Harris, who has a long track record of writing gentle, heartfelt singles. He won the Grammy for Song of the Year more than 20 years ago for penning “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones. That tune also earned Record of the Year, but that honor went to Jones and the producers and mixers, not the songwriter.
V’s “Winter Ahead” is currently scheduled to arrive just days before another, previously announced single. The BTS powerhouse will team up with the late Bing Crosby to put a fresh spin on “White Christmas,” one of the bestselling and most famous holiday songs of all time.
“White Christmas” was originally released in 1942, and it became a staple for Crosby not long afterward. In the decades since, it’s become a staple around the jolliest day of the year. The song has been covered countless times, but very few renditions have the blessing of the original musician, or, in this case, his estate.
“Winter Ahead” and “White Christmas” will mark V’s first new releases since he dropped the one-off single “Fri(end)s” in March of this year. The South Korean superstar shared his first full-length on his own, Layover, last fall, to great, if short-lived, commercial success.
