Elton John is back at No. 1 in the U.K., and this time, he’s not alone. The music legend returns to the summit of the Official Albums chart this frame with a brand new release — and a new collaborator credited alongside him on the throne. His latest studio effort doesn’t just launch in the top spot, it also helps him reach an important career milestone.
Elton John and Brandi Carlile Open at No. 1
Who Believes in Angels?, a collaborative project between John and Brandi Carlile, opens at No. 1 on the Official Albums chart. That roster tracks the most-consumed EPs and full-lengths in the U.K., and this time around, it’s the two powerhouse talents who jointly claim the highest spot.
The collection was introduced to fans with a handful of tunes, though it seems the chart-topping start is thanks largely to John’s continued popularity in his home country and Carlile’s growing base of support in the U.K., as now massive win has yet emerged from the set.
Elton John Lands His Tenth U.K. No. 1
With Who Believes in Angels?, John claims his tenth No. 1 title in the U.K. He first reached the top all the way back in 1973 with Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player. That win kicked off a decades-spanning run that includes chart rulers like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou, Sleeping with the Past, and Diamonds, which needed some time before eventually rising to the summit.
In 2021, he returned to No. 1 with The Lockdown Sessions, his most recent brand new release before this one. He also hit the peak with The Very Best of Elton John, his collaborative remix album Good Morning to the Night with PNAU, and his Greatest Hits compilation.
This new release gives Carlile her very first U.K. chart-topper.
Who Believes in Angels? Hits No. 1 on Five Charts
It’s not just the main albums tally that Who Believes in Angels? dominates this time around. The set starts at No. 1 on a total of five U.K. rankings this frame. In addition to leading the Official Albums chart, the release also rules the Official Album Sales, Official Album Downloads, Official Physical Albums, and Official Vinyl Albums rosters.
Elton John’s Diamonds Shines Again
While Who Believes in Angels? commands the spotlight, it’s not the only John project that’s present on the U.K. music rankings this week. His perennial favorite Diamonds is also showing that it’s still a favorite on several charts. The compilation, which features many of his most iconic cuts, continues as a staple in the U.K., especially when it comes to platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
This frame, Diamonds lifts to No. 14 on the Official Albums chart. At the same time, it climbs to No. 8 on the Official Albums Streaming tally. The project also manages a comeback on the Official Album Downloads list, re-entering at No. 83. The set has previously reached No. 1 on all of these tallies, and it remains one of John’s most commercially reliable titles.
