FC Barcelona star Gavi addressed transfer speculation linking him to Paris Saint-Germain while on international duty for Spain and speaking to Mundo Deportivo.
The Andalusian has often been the subject of rumors that would see him reunited with Luis Enrique at the Parc des Princes, with the figure currently regarded as the best head coach in the world handing Gavi his La Roja debut in September 2021.
Gavi has no doubts about Luis Enrique’s standing in the game, and is also eternally grateful to his former national team boss.
“For me he is the best. He is number one, outstanding, both he and his staff. I’m very happy for him. He was the one who made me debut in the national team, against the European champions, Italy, at the San Siro. I will never forget that day. And he had the balls to put me on, because all the people threw themselves on him [for picking me]
. I’m very happy for him and he deserves everything,” Gavi said about the Asturian.
Gavi was then reminded about the PSG transfer reports, but assured Culers they can sleep well about him not moving on.
“I am very clear about it. People believe what they read in any medium… And I understand people who may believe it,” Gavi remarked. “But it is not going to happen. I’m very calm. My dream and my mentality is to spend my entire career at Barca. It’s the club of my life and where I want to succeed. I don’t want anything else, and I’ll give everything in my power to make it possible.”
On hitting back at those who say he can’t play football and have “no f*cking clue”, Gavi pointed out that “many people see me as a competitor, a warrior, or whatever you want to call it”.
“And I am, I’m very competitive. But I also have quality with the ball, and a lot of people don’t value it. I understand the people who hate me for the way I play, maybe it’s not so pleasant for them to watch. But many people underestimate me in the football aspect, with the ball. They have no idea about that.
“But as long as those who know about football know how good I am with the ball, I don’t care. In the end, it seems that you can’t be competitive and have quality, as if they were opposite things. I’m always going to be the same,” he vowed.
Gavi will continue to fight for minutes at FC Barcelona next season
Tipped to become an ‘FC Barcelona superstar’ by Hansi Flick, Gavi will go into 2025/2026 battling for minutes with the likes of Dani Olmo, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong as the Catalans attempt to defend their three trophies won on domestic soil last term.
