The UFC returned to Kansas City for the first time since April 2023 for tonight’s UFC Kansas City fight card. In the main event of the UFC Fight Night card, Ian Machado Garry defeated Carlos Prates in a solid performance that saw Prates nearly come from behind to finish the contest in the final minute of the fifth round. Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Zhang Mingyang sent Anthony Smith into retirement with a first-round TKO loss. Below, we look at the UFC Kansas City fight card results, video highlights, scorecards, and more.
UFC Kansas City Main Card Results: Ian Machado Garry Defeats Carlos Prates
Two incredibly confident strikers got down to business in the main event. Ian Machado Garry controlled the range and pace of the fight for most of the bout. He didn’t give Carlos Prates the time or space he needed to get his offense going. When Prates put things together late in the fifth round, he nearly finished the bout, but his cardio failed and he couldn’t sustain damaging output.
Machado Garry had four very good rounds on Saturday night. Still, his final round left some questions unanswered, especially as he began to fatigue and failed to sustain the defense he put together in the first few rounds.
The loss also showed that Prates and his team have some things to work on, like making in-round adjustments when their initial plan fails and preparing the fighter to go 25 hard minutes.
Overall, this was a good fight for Machado Garry, but it still feels too early to say he is an elite talent in the UFC’s welterweight division. He needs a bigger test against a fighter with a more well-rounded game plan and strong cardio.
UFC Kansas City Main Card Results: Zhang Mingyang Defeats Anthony Smith
Zhang Mingyang might not have much UFC experience, but he studied Anthony Smith’s weaknesses and opened the fight by unloading on Smith’s legs. He then went upstairs, opening cuts on Smith’s head with some nasty elbows that had Smith leaking badly by the middle of the first stanza. Once the fight got to the mat, Mingyang did more damage with ground strikes, leaving the center of the Octagon coated in Smith’s blood before referee Jason Herzog waved off the fight.
UFC Kansas City Main Card Results: David Onama Defeats Giga Chikadze
David Onama had some struggles in the first round against the striking of Giga Chikadze, but once he was able to get the fight to the mat, he racked up control time on the mat to get the win.
UFC Kansas City Main Card Results: Abus Magomedov Defeats Michel Pereira
Abus Magomedov put a lot of pressure on Michel Pereira early, pushing forward while looking to land a mixed bag of strikes with power, giving Pereira no time or space to establish an offense of his own.
The second round was much slower for both men, as was the third round.
The fans in attendance did not appreciate the final 10 minutes of the bout outside of a couple of big punches that staggered Pereira.
Magomedov is now on a three-fight winning streak, while Pereira is on a two-fight losing skid.
UFC Kansas City Main Card Results: Randy Brown Defeats Nicolas Dalby
Randy Brown literally disfigured Nicolas Dalby early in the first round, twisting his nose to the right side of his face, compliments of a right hook. Despite the injury, Dalby never took his foot off the gas, scoring a knockdown later in the round.
As action-packed as the first round was, the two welterweights got right back to looking for a knockout in the second stanza. Brown was the more effective striker during the exchanges in the second stanza, using his length and power to hurt Dalby before Dalby bit down on his mouthpiece and charged forward, only to be dropped face-first to the canvas with a nasty right.
The impressive finish marked the first time Dalby has been finished in 32 pro bouts.
UFC Kansas City Main Card Results: Ikram Aliskerov Defeats André Muniz
Ikram Aliskerov had a bad night against Robert Whittaker in June 2024, losing to the former UFC middleweight kingpin in a main event by first-round knockout in what was Aliskerov’s second UFC fight. Aliskerov bounced back from that loss in a big way on Saturday, stunning André Muniz with a left against the cage and then wrapping things up with an onslaught of ground strikes.

UFC Tonight: UFC Kansas City Main Event – Ian Machado Garry Vs. Carlos Prates
Ian Machado Garry (15-1) has an 8-1 record under the UFC banner. The 27-year-old has five decisions and three knockouts. In June 2024, Machado Garry defeated Michael “Venom” Page at UFC 303 to earn his eighth straight win under the UFC banner. However, he tasted defeat in his next outing, dropping a decision to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310.
Machado Garry initially came across as a Conor McGregor clone, but the confident Irish fighter has found his own personality as a competitor who is more than willing to take on the toughest the competitors the UFC can book him against, something he did again in accepting this fight on short notice.
Machado Garry is the No. 7 ranked UFC welterweight.
Carlos Prates (21-6) joined the UFC in 2023 with a knockout win on a Dana White’s Contender Series card. Since then, the 31-year-old has gone 4-0 with the UFC, winning each of those fights by knockout. Prates also earned performance bonuses for each of his four knockouts. In his most recent outings, Prates scored an August 2024 stoppage of Li Jingliang before moving on to defeat Neal Magny via TKO on a UFC Fight Night Card in November.
Prates, a member of The Fighting Nerds team, is on an 11-fight winning streak overall.
The UFC had Prates booked to face Geoff Neal at UFC 314, but that fight fell apart when Neal withdrew from the contest in late March. With that, Prates was moved to the top of this fight card when Garry agreed to face him on short notice.
Prates is the No. 13 fighter in the UFC’s official 170-pound rankings.

UFC Tonight: UFC Kansas City Fight Card Main Event – Ian Machado Garry Vs. Carlos Prates Predictions And Picks
When the betting odds opened for this scrap, Machado Garry was a -125 betting favorite over the +105 Prates. The betting lines now have Machado Garry at -145 and Prates as the +120 betting underdog.
Most of the bets for this fight have come in on Prates (56 percent), while the majority of the money has been wagered on Machado Garry (63 percent).
Machado Garry is the more technical striker of the two fighters in the UFC Kansas City main event, and while Prates gets hit a lot, his opponent is not the type of fighter who carries single-strike stopping power into this bout, Prates is that type of fighter. When you add that power to Machado Garry’s somewhat reckless defense, things begin to look dicey for the fighter who accepted this bout on short notice.
The betting pick is Prates to win via knockout.
UFC Tonight: UFC Kansas City Co-Main Event: Anthony Smith Vs. Zhang Mingyang
Zhang Mingyang was a substantial -550 betting favorite when the odds opened for this light heavyweight matchup. Meanwhile, Anthony Smith came in as the +400 betting underdog for his final fight. Smith’s odds have improved a bit, but not much. Today, he is listed at +360, while Mingyang is -500.
With the odds being so lopsided in this fight, it’s no surprise to see bettors looking for value. Smith has 87 percent of the bets and 85 percent of the money on him.
The betting pick is Mingyang to win via knockout.
UFC Tonight: UFC Kansas City – Giga Chikadze Vs. David Onama
Giga Chikadze was the only fighter to miss weight for the UFC Kansas City card. He came in one pound over the limit for his featherweight fight against David Onama. Despite the weight miss, the fight will go on. Chikadze was fined 20 percent of his fight purse.
Onama opened as the -200 favorite over the +165 Chikadze. Today, Onama is -170 and Chikadze +140. Chikadze has 58 percent of the bets, but 77 percent of the money is on Onama.
The betting pick is Onama to win via decision.
UFC Tonight: UFC Kansas City – Michel Pereira Vs. Abusupiyan Magomedov
Next, we have a middleweight matchup between Michel Pereira and Abusupiyan Magomedov. Pereira opened as the -165 favorite over the +140 Magomedov. Pereira remains the favorite at -145, while Magomedov is now +120. Magomedov has 52 percent of the bets, while Pereira has 71 percent of the handle.
