Jelly Roll scored a surprising hit earlier this year alongside one of the most successful names in pop punk. The multi-genre musician teamed up with MGK—formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly—to put their own twist on John Denver’s “Country Roads,” and their collaboration became a quick hit.
Months after it reached musical rankings around the world, “Lonely Road,” as MGK and Jelly have named their updated cut, is still popular. In fact, the tune even manages to debut on two tallies in the United Kingdom this week, and it’s a big win on both of them.
“Lonely Road” launches inside the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. On the U.K.’s list of the bestselling individual songs on wax, Jelly and MGK start their duet at No. 9.
Half of the spots inside the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Singles ranking are occupied by debuts this week. Jelly and MGK land behind new arrivals from the likes of OMD (“Look at You Now,” No. 2), Hard-Fi (“Don’t Go Making Plans,” No. 3), Glass Beams (“Mirage,” No. 4), and Yar Act (“Live at the Nave,” No. 8).
“Lonely Road” marks the first top 10 for both Jelly and MGK on the vinyl-only tally. Jelly is actually entirely new to the list, but MGK, as Machine Gun Kelly, has landed on the list before. In January of this year, his single “Drunk Face” opened and peaked at No. 13 on the roster.
The same collaboration is also new to another list, the Official Physical Singles chart. On that roster, MGK and Jelly launch their unexpected tune at No. 17. On that ranking, which focuses on the top-selling tunes on CD, cassette, or vinyl, “Lonely Road” enters behind seven other popular cuts.
“Lonely Road” came out of nowhere in July, just as Jelly was getting ready for his new album Beautifully Broken to drop. The song was a standalone single, and it became a worldwide hit, especially in English-speaking nations. In the U.K., the tune rose as high as No. 67 on the main songs ranking, which was a big win for both musicians, who have yet to translate their huge success in the U.S. across the Atlantic.
