‘Kraven The Hunter’ Features The ‘Spider-Man’ Villain The Rhino
One of the villains Kraven faces in the film is Aleksei Sytsevich, aka the Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola.
In a Zoom conversation prior to the release of Kraven the Hunter in theaters, Nivola pointed out an interesting fact about the character on film — both he and his longtime friend and fellow actor Paul Giamatti are the only two performers to bring the comic book icon to life on the big screen.
Nivola said the two made the connection of playing the Rhino while filming their upcoming roles in Downton Abbey 3.
“We were joking about stuff because first of all, we’ve known each other since I was 18. I was an undergrad at Yale when he was a Yale Drama student and we were in plays together back when I was still a teenager,” Nivola recalled. “So, it was a fun reunion and then we realized that he had played The Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So we said, ‘We both played the f—-ing Rhino!’”
Per The Numbers, earned $25 million domestically and nearly $35 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $60 million against a $110 million production budget before prints and advertising costs.
Kraven the Hunter didn’t do any better with Rotten Tomatoes critics, who collectively gave the film a 15% “rotten” rating based on 153 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “Claiming no trophies with its rote story and shoddy special effects, Kraven the Hunter turns out to be a paper tiger.”
