A pristine piece of midcentury-modern architectural history has hit the market in Los Angeles.
For the first time ever, a home crafted by the celebrated architect A. Quincy Jones is up for sale, with an asking price just shy of $3.5 million, according to Mansion Global.
Built in 1956, this architectural gem — now a time capsule from that period — was designed for Norman Reicher, who was drawn to Jones’s groundbreaking vision.
“Our dad … was always ahead of his time — both in his thinking and his personal style,” shared Reicher’s daughter, Shelley Reicher-Lawrence, in a statement. She added, “He admired A. Quincy Jones’s architectural vision and wanted a home that both reflected a forward-thinking, functional style and integrated beautifully, seamlessly and organically with its natural surroundings.”
Jones, whose influence helped shape the very essence of Southern California modernism, left his mark on thousands of structures, including one of the famed Case Study Houses.
This home, however, has been remarkably preserved by the Reicher family, remaining largely untouched — except for a new roof.
“It is a time capsule in original form,” Joseph Cilic, the listing representative from Sotheby’s International Realty told Mansion Global.
The house boasts vintage mid-century features. Those include a fireplace framed with Palos Verdes stones, a living room sofa seamlessly built into the structure, and a kitchen with nostalgic Formica countertops and a built-in cutting board.
Even the bathrooms stay true to their era, with a standout yellow tub and matching sinks.
The layout includes four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a two-car garage.
Jones’s hallmark design also seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces, using walls of sliding glass and metal doors that open up to a patio illuminated by skylights.
The outdoor area also features a classic pool complete with a diving board and direct access to changing rooms.
Not just a piece of architectural history, this home has had its moment in the spotlight too, making an appearance in the sitcom “Single Parents” back in 2018.
Cilic and his colleague Bruno Abisror are handling the sale of this residence.
