The White Lotus Season 3 creator Mike White and stars including Walton Goggins, Jon Gries, Aimee Lou Wood and Charlotte Le Bon are setting the stage for what promises to be a shocking ending to the show’s season finale on Sunday.
Each season of the hit HBO/Max series begins with the discovery of a body of a character and then flashes back to the weeklong events leading up to it. Since each season is made up of a huge ensemble of complicated characters, the narrative takes several twisty paths each season until the identity of the victim — and his or her murderer — is revealed.
In Season 1, Armond (Murray Bartlett) — the manager of The White Lotus’ Hawaiian luxury resort — was accidentally stabbed to death by hotel guest Shane (Jake Lacy). Next, Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge), who got out of the first season alive, dives after hitting her head on a boat and drowning off the coast of Sicily. The irony is she thwarted a plot by her husband, Greg Hunt (Gries) to kill her before her tragic demise.
Now, while media and fans are all crunching the numbers and trying to predict who will die and who their murderer is in Season 3, several people involved with the series are effectively telling audiences to brace themselves for something big in the finale, which will run 90 minutes.
“Get f—ing ready,” Leslie Bibb told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “Like, get ready. Let’s f—ing go.”
Bibb plays Kate, who along with longtime frenemies Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Laurie (Carrie Coon) are among the groups visiting The White Lotus in Thailand.
Also there are Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) and his wife, Victoria (Parker Posey), and their grown children Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola).
The staff at the resort includes Mook (Lalisa Manobal), Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) and Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) — a Season 1 character who has transferred in temporarily from the resort in Hawaii.
Le Bon — who plays Greg’s much younger girlfriend, Chloe — suggested that fans are not going to be happy with who meets their demise.
“I think people are going to hate Mike White,” Le Bon told THR.
Mike White Knows He’s In A No-Win Situation With ‘The White Lotus’
Mike White said coming up with the character who doesn’t survive The White Lotus every season generally stirs up debate and he knows he’s in a no-win situation.—
“I’m always going to get people who are mad,” White told THR. “I remember last season, halfway through, they were like, ‘They don’t know what to do with Jennifer Coolidge,’ and I’m like, ‘Just shut the f— up.’ And then they were mad that she died!”
Whoever it ends up being, Aimee Lou Wood — who plays Rick’s (Walton Goggins) much younger girlfriend, Chelsea — told THR that the finale is “profound” and includes “triumph” and “despair.”
“It kind of the full spectrum of what White Lotus can be,” Wood told THR.
Jon Gries — the only cast member who has starred in all three seasons of The White Lotus — gave perhaps the most ominous warning for what viewers can expect with the Season 3 finale, telling THR, “It is shocking — absolutely, mouth-agape shocking.”
The White Lotus Season 3 season finale airs Sunday night on HBO and streams on Max.
