Plenty of college football programs are looking to make things official with their quarterback of the future with National Signing Day for the 2025 recruiting class coming next week. The combination of immediate eligibility for transfer portal entries, coaching changes, players committing earlier than ever and NIL deals coming down to the wire have led to a ton of decommitments, leaving teams scrambling to lock down QB recruits.
Nothing is official until they sign during the initial signing period, which runs Dec. 4-6. The next signing period takes place Feb. 5-April 1, 2025.
So far in the 2025 recruiting class, 23 high school quarterbacks have reopened their recruitments after making their original commitments. Here’s a look at the top 10 QB flips one week before the first day of the Early Signing Period, and expect more to come down the stretch.
Bryce Underwood
LSU ➡ Michigan
The highest-rated overall recruiting prospect was involved in one of the most high-profile stories in recent memory. Bryce Underwood committed to LSU in early July, but the Michigan resident was swayed last week by a Wolverines’ NIL package that included contributions from Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy and Larry Ellison, the co-founder of the software company Oracle with his wife, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Julian Lewis
USC ➡ Colorado
On the same day the Underwood-to-Michigan news broke, the trend of Deion Sanders landing a big-time commit before National Signing Day continued. Julian Lewis decommitted from USC to become the most prized recruit in the Buffaloes’ 2025 class. He had been pledged to Lincoln Riley in August 2023 before last week’s announcement to Colorado.
Keelon Russell
SMU ➡ Alabama
This recruitment did not come down to the final few weeks like the two above as five-star Keelon Russell has been committed to Alabama since June when he flipped from SMU. He committed to the Mustangs in September 2023 before announcing this decision.
Deuce Knight
Notre Dame ➡ Auburn
The flip from four-star prospect Deuce Knight was among the least surprising decisions in the class after the then-Notre Dame commit visited Auburn several weeks in a row. He eventually locked down a commitment to the Tigers in early October after being pledged to Notre Dame for more than a year.
Tramell Jones Jr.
Florida State ➡ Florida
Two in-state rivals battled it out for four-star prospect Tramell Jones Jr. ahead of their annual matchup coming this weekend. Jones had been committed to Florida State from April 2023 through mid-November before ultimately siding with the Gators. Florida has certainly been gaining momentum as a program after a midseason surge has gotten them bowl eligible, while the Seminoles sit at 2-9.
Husan Longstreet
Texas A&M ➡ USC
On the same day Julian Lewis announced his decision to decommit from USC, the Trojans rebounded with flip from former Texas A&M five-star QB commit Husan Longstreet. The California prospect had been committed to the Aggies for more than a year and a half before hopping on the Lincoln Riley bandwagon in mid-November.
Kevin Sperry
Oklahoma ➡ Florida State
Kevin Sperry’s flip from Oklahoma to Florida State is in the came-out-of-nowhere category because nobody who follows recruiting extensively saw this connection coming. He seemed set on the Sooners where he’d been committed for 20 months, but anything can happen when there’s a coaching change. Oklahoma offensive coordinator Seth Littrell was fired in mid-October, and Sperry revealed the Seminoles last week.
Carter Smith
Michigan ➡ Wisconsin
Wisconsin became another winner in Bryce Underwood’s decision to flip to Michigan because during the negotiation process, four-star Carter Smith reopened his recruitment. He had been committed to the Wolverines for nearly a year, and the Badgers won the battle for Smith who announced his decision over the weekend. Smith picked the Badgers without even having an offensive coordinator in place since Phil Longo was fired weeks before committing.
Blake Hebert
Clemson ➡ Notre Dame
Notre Dame had a quarterback spot open after Deuce Knight flipped to Auburn, and the Fighting Irish filled that hole quickly with four-star Blake Hebert. He was committed to Clemson for nearly a year and a half before swapping the Tigers for Notre Dame in October.
Adam Schobel
Baylor ➡ Oklahoma State ➡ TCU
A lot can happen over the next week, but four-star prospect Adam Schobel is the only quarterback who has been committed to three times in the 2025 recruiting class. He originally announced Baylor as his choice in June 2023 and had been committed for more than 10 months before flipping to Oklahoma State. It took three months for him to make another decision change to TCU where he’s been committed since July.

Jackson Kollock: Washington ➡ Minnesota
Shaker Reisig: Utah ➡ Boston College

Ty Hawkins: TCU ➡ SMU
Robert McDaniel: Cal ➡ Arizona
Jett Niu: Appalachian State ➡ Oklahoma State
Drew Cowart: BYU ➡ Utah
Antwann Hill: Colorado ➡ Memphis
