The road to the 2025 Academy Awards begins with the announcement of the Oscar nominations Thursday morning.
The Oscar nominations come after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences postponed the annual live ceremony amid the devastation caused by Los Angeles-area wildfires. Originally, the nominations were set to be announced on Friday, Jan. 17, before the the date was shifted to Sunday, Jan. 19. Last week, AMPAS moved the date of the nominations to Thursday, Jan. 23.
Actors Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live, Wicked) and Rachel Sennott (Saturday Night, The Idol) will announce the nominations live on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. ET / 5:30 a.m. PT. AMPAS announced last week that the announcement of the Oscar nominations “will be a virtual event without any in-person media coverage.”
The nominations will be streamed live on the Academy’s YouTube channel as well as ABC-TV’s Good Morning America. The link to the Academy’s YouTube channel is embedded below.

According to AMPAS, the Oscar nominations will be broken up into two segments. The first segment—set for 8:30 a.m. ET / 5:30 a.m. PT—will reveal the nominees in the categories below. Note: The listing is not in the order of presentation.

The awards season for movies released in 2024 began with the 2025 Golden Globes, which were handed out in Los Angeles on Jan. 5. Emilia Pérez led all of the winners with four wins including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while The Brutalist won three Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture – Drama.
Since then, the nominees have been revealed for several industry awards, including the Screen Actors Guild, the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America.
Also revealed were the 10 nominees for the Producers Guild Awards, which are Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, A Real Pain, September 5, The Substance and Wicked.
Also on the horizon are the Critics Choice Awards, which will be presented on Friday, Feb. 7, and the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which will be handed out on Saturday, Feb. 22. Both events will be held in Santa Monica, Calif.
The 97th Academy Awards will be handed out on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles. Conan O’Brien is hosting the ceremony, which will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on ABC-TV and streamed live on Hulu.
