It was a bad day for game shows at TBS.
The cable network has opted against producing news seasons of the Wipeout revival and The Cube.
Hosted by Jona Cena and Nicole Byer, Wipeout premiered in 2021 and featured updated courses that are bigger and wetter than ever, with each episode sending contestants racing their way through water, slime, mud, and the series’ iconic big red balls for the chance to win a grand prize of $25,000.
The original version of Wipeout was a summer staple on ABC from 2008 to 2014.
The Cube, which was based on the British original broadcast on ITV from 2009 until 2015, followed contestant pairs who had to demonstrate skill, nerve and determination as they endured seemingly simple physical and mental tasks – all while confined in the titular glass box, which possessed its own mind and attitude. It was hosted by NBA champion Dwyane Wade, and it aired for three seasons.
The two cancellations were announced on Monday by Jason Sarlanis, President of TNT, TBS, ruTV, ID & HLN, Linear and Streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, at the Realscreen Summit in Miami.
